Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Altayeb Yousif Alhaj

Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Altayeb Yousif Alhaj is a Sudanese academic and researcher specializing in Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching (ELT). He is widely recognized for combining extensive academic expertise with innovative contributions to language teaching, particularly in developing writing and communication skills. Born in Hasahisa, Sudan, on January 1, 1968, Dr. Alhaj has dedicated his career to advancing English language education and pioneering new approaches for Arab and international learners.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature from Omdurman Islamic University in 1990, followed by a Master’s degree in English Language Teaching (Curricula & Methods) from Alneelain University in 2009. In 2014, he obtained his Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Gezira, Sudan. This strong academic foundation provided him with both theoretical and practical perspectives that shaped his career as an educator and researcher.

Since the early 1990s, Dr. Alhaj has accumulated extensive teaching experience. He first taught English in Sudanese secondary schools, then worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Gezira before moving to Saudi Arabia in 1996. At Jazan University, he has taught across multiple faculties, including the College of Medicine, the Deanship of Community College, the English Language Institute, and the College of Arts & Applied Community Services. Over the years, he has also served in numerous academic and administrative roles such as program coordinator, head of academic and cultural committees, and head of electronic learning materials at the English Language Institute.

Dr. Alhaj is known for his innovative teaching philosophy, which integrates eclectic, communicative, and constructivist approaches. He often transforms his classrooms into interactive spaces, encouraging group discussions, collaborative projects, and active student participation. He has also been a strong advocate of incorporating digital tools, online platforms, and virtual classrooms to enhance the learning experience.

His research contributions include presentations and papers delivered at prestigious international conferences in the UK, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the UAE, Sudan, and Saudi Arabia. His studies have explored topics such as web-based instruction for EFL students, the role of social media in teaching medical terminology, and strategies for motivating learners in second language acquisition.

In addition to his teaching and research, Dr. Alhaj has pursued professional development in areas such as e-learning, project management, quality assurance, and business administration. He holds certifications including Professional Trainer of Trainers (PTOT), Mini MBA, and international credentials in digital education and quality management.
