Assoc. Prof. Dr. Neriman Koken

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Neriman Koken is a Turkish academic and researcher in the fields of educational sciences and cultural studies, with extensive experience in teaching, research, and educational administration. Born on June 24, 1980, she pursued her undergraduate studies at Ankara University, Faculty of Language, History, and Geography, where she specialized in English Language and Literature between 1998 and 2003. Alongside her undergraduate program, she also completed a Pedagogical Formation Program at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, which provided her with solid foundations for a career in teaching and academic research.

In 2005, Dr. Köken advanced her academic journey at Erciyes University, where she enrolled in the Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Educational Sciences, with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction. She was awarded her Master’s degree in 2010, focusing on instructional methodologies and educational development. Her academic trajectory continued with doctoral studies at Ankara University, Institute of Educational Sciences, specializing in the Cultural Foundations of Education with an emphasis on the social and historical dimensions of education. She successfully earned her Ph.D. in 2022, a milestone that underscored her scholarly commitment to bridging cultural and educational perspectives. Since 2022, she has further expanded her academic scope by pursuing a Master’s degree in Eurasian Studies at Erciyes University, reflecting her interdisciplinary interests.

Dr. Köken possesses strong multilingual abilities: she is fluent in Turkish and English at an advanced academic level and has working knowledge of Russian. These linguistic skills enrich her ability to conduct cross-cultural research, engage with diverse learner populations, and contribute to international academic collaborations.

Professionally, she has accumulated over 20 years of experience in education and administration under the Turkish Ministry of National Education, where she actively contributed to the design and implementation of various educational programs. Her expertise has also been recognized internationally through her involvement in major projects supported by organizations such as the European Union and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Notable projects include PIKTES (Supporting Inclusive Education for Children in the Turkish Education System), HEP (Accelerated Education Program for children under temporary protection who are out of formal schooling), and SUYE (Social Services, Adaptation, and Life Education Project for legally residing foreigners in Turkey).
